My work / Belfast Central Mission
View Other Projects
Belfast Central Mission is one of Northern Irelands’ oldest charities. Founded in 1889 as part of the Methodist church’s response to problems inherent in inner-city life, BCM is involved with all sectors of the community, irrespective of religious or political affiliation.
Requirements
Belfast Central Mission needed first a website and then 3 years later a redesign or I prefer to say realignment of their website. In projects of this nature, that are often managed by committee in can be difficult to identify exactly what the organisation needs as a whole, but some objectives did stand out above the rest, so it was here that I concentrated my efforts.
Solution
Through research in the charity sector and a selection of information gathering and project scoping exercises, which made use of documentation designed for this purpose, I prioritised the content and defined the goals for the site – highlight the conference facilities for hire, provide ongoing vacancy and news information, to increase traffic, encourage users to get involved, and to allow users to locate required information quickly and efficiently, all while bringing the design up-to-date. A basic content management solution was implemented and was kept simple in an attempt to keep the stakeholders/users happy and not make their working day even more stressful.
